Culver City Day Trip

Come along for a photographic adventure that takes place in Culver City!
The week of my birthday I took 5 days off work in hopes of having my tax return ready to go on a vacation, but no...no money came. But I still had an awesome birthday week and made sure to take advantage of those days off :)

The first thing on my itinerary was a day trip to Los Angeles, I know it sounds stupid but I live in OC and hate the traffic so I rarely go outside the orange curtain :) But on this glorious Tuesday noon we made it there in no time flat!
First things first, a stop at the gas station for fuel for both us and the car! Does Katrina not  look excited?

With the girls in the back and me and Nate in the front we left on our way out of OC, passing by the iconic Knotts Berry Farm skyline! If you're afraid of heights, then don't look!

So the main reason for going to Culver city that day was to look at art galleries, and well, take silly pictures. There were the best photo op areas like these orange and red squares on the wall!

Long alleys

It doesn't hurt to be tall and thin either...

And to top it off a huge pile of cracked concrete!

And this is my fav pic I have taken of Katrina! Cute/crazy sums it up!

This was the only art gallery open that day :( It had these scarry ice cream cone people that had holes in them. Im pretty sure this explains why I had a nightmare a few days later involving my hands having holes al over them!!!

I love that Nate was in the moment and everyone else is moving, texting, oblivious to whats going on. And its also taken at a bus stop, ironic how its called a stop when most who us it are on the go.

This is one of many models they had on display at the SPFA: Studio Pali Fekete Architects

I couldnt resist taking a photo of  the color combos of Pinches Taco's exterior paint job against those succulents. So exotic!

We attempted to eat lunch at fathers office, but they weren't open yet :( I have been wanting to go here for a while now! So I just took a pic in front of it to prove my defeated attempt.

This shot was of us in the mirror that was in the back of the store but taken from outside the front door.

My fav concrete design: The Nixon!

We spotted Cool Haus didnt know they had a location in Culver City?

We all liked this piece that was hanging on the outside of a building....

And this is the home of the artist who painted the above artwork. Can you decifer her design aesthetic? Black background and white silhouette! She was very friendly and so were her 5 cats!

Well my friends, this concurs my trip to Culver City, later that day we headed to Santa Monica and Venice...which will be posted soon. So many great shots from this day!

Also next week June 10th is PATCHWORK CULVER CITY! You should go, its at HELMS BAKERY!

Muriel's Wedding

Muriels Wedding is what you get when you mix early 90s culture, Australia and ABBA. To think that al these years I would walk by this movie on the shelf at blockbuster...what was I thinking. How is it that I hadn't seen this film before? Maybe you have already and you might think its so-so, but I think that its some sort of a cult classic! I love Toni Colette's character and how she is out of her mind in many ways, and gotta love the ABBA soundtrack. As a kid I listened to them all-the-time!

If you know a thing or two about fashion then you have picked up on the ever rising 90s trend that's been just waiting to become mainstream again. Come on you know you wanna wear a silk Dolce & Gabanna shirt with your colored jeans! And don't forget about those neon Navajo printed skirts/shirts you name it its Navajo.

A friend of mine put a photo of us as kids on her Facebook and it got us all starting up on what we were wearing. Lots of floral and brown lipstick! Wow, did any of you wear that shade on your lips?

The girl in the background looks alot like what I did as a kid in the 90s. I had that Stephanie tanner thing going on. I always wanted to be like her even though now I look back and think she was more annoying than the neighbor.

Part of me realllllllllllly wants to wear a cropped long sleeved shirt. And then part of me is like wtf are you thinking? And then I'm like yeah that's not gonna work.

If you have or have not seen this film just watch it for the awesome fashion and the strangely funny story-line.

Spring Inspirations

The feelings of SADD are slowly leaving me as the weather creeps up past the 50 and 60 degree mark and daylight savings has made its way into my life.I live in So-Cal and I hate layering, I know I got So-Cal problems. During the long winter I usually hold my self over with a blast of my space heater while listening to Bossa nova and drinking a beer. This results in me congested and the possibility of hallucination! So awesome...why do I do this to myself? The sacrifices I make to pretend its warm and sunny!

Below: All these photos have been taken during Spring 2012 because something about them brought great feelings of Spring and each one holds a memory to me.

Top L-R: Pretty sandals I saw at my first Fullerton Farmers Market of the season, Laguna Beach Palm Trees blowing in the wind bring calmness to my mind, Patchwork signs mean the return of the Spring showcase.

Bottom L-R: Drawing up window display idea's while sipping mint iced tea, reading Print Workshop book on a rainy day road Less Traveled, Taking a moment to myself at Newport Beach.

What inspires you?

Best Dressed @ EXPO WEST

After looking at all of the glorious products and even crazier displays I decided to it was time to take a break and do some people watching. I have to confess that sometimes when I go to the mall or a theme park I prefer to people watch over anything else.

Im guilty of playing a game of "is that or is that..." in reference to celebrity look alikes :) It may sound stupid at first but it passes the time and is a guaranteed laugh. And sometimes you might actually see a celeb so be on the lookout below because there is a photo of a famous musician! Can you spot him or her?

On another note, Im thinking not many people have been photographed for a blog and some of the people I asked were kind of confused as to why I wanted their photo. Well...I partly wanted to show photos of people at the convention, but not just any old people. I wanted to show the most stylish and cool looking attendees of EXPO WEST. I tried and this is what I gathered from my field study (don't I sound like some smart ass anthropologist) lots of yellow, chambray, colored jeans, large bags, black flats, black rim glasses and boots.

Go West

Back in March my sister and I attended EXPO WEST to do some product research for Road Less Traveled! It was our first time attending and we were def. blown away by the awesomeness!

If ya'll aren't familiar with what I'm talking about EXPO WEST is an annual springtime show held at the Anaheim convention center featuring natural products for all aspect of life including: health, beauty, textiles, food, and home accessories. There was an enormous amount of cool products and everyone was friendly and offered generous samples of their products! And since I had my badge on Saying my job title and company name it was a great way of doing some networking.

While I was there I made sure to take photos of all the cool products displays as well as some people watching :)  ENJOY

(Below) Horizon and Silk milk display was massive and made from pallets. They even had a little patio.
