Bahati-Bold, Rich and Vibrant African Inspired Collection

About Bahati

Bahati is an up and coming fashion and accessories collection straight out of Nairobi, Kenya that is is both inspiring and beautifully made.

Patricia Wakaimba is the founder of Bahati and contacted me about her collection and I'm so glad she did. Her designs are truly unique and perfect for us girls who love modern bright bold prints and fun styles and shapes inspired by Africa. Perfect for the Spring and Summertime now, and years to come. Her collection is made on site in a small workshop in Nairobi and is a fair trade and ethical brand. And to top it all off Patricia and Bahati are working to raise awareness against the harmful effects of Female Genital Mutilation.

Female Genital Mutilation

FGM is a harmful, crippling practice that alters the lives of millions of young girls forever. It is irreversible; its consequences haunt the girls long after the procedure. This subject is very dear to me and I strongly believe that information, education and public discussion are more effective tools against FGM than direct, prohibitive action. Culture cannot be changed over night.

Programmes such as ‘circumcision through words’ are being introduced in Kenya as a way of incorporating the cultural/ traditional aspect that is associated with the circumcision only without the procedure. Such efforts are highly commendable and are in need of our support.

Craving Cupcakes

All day I was craving a cupcake and the only local place which is still like 8 miles away was closed today :( So I went on with my day with the craving still lingering in the back of my mind. I was beginning to think that my cupcake urging was about to be killed until we left the grocery store to head on home. While pulling out of the parking lot I saw a hot pink sign that said " Sugar Rush Sweets" and just had to make my way on over.

Boy am I glad that I made a pit stop there, its really cute and girlie inside. Nothing short of what I would expect from a cupcake/bakery shop. Hot pink and black and white color scheme and lots and lots of sweets on display. Hmm what to get what to get. I have been on a Red Velvet Kick but I do love me some coconut especially with the heat wave we got going. I settled on the red velvet which had frosting that sparkled, so cool.

Fast forward hours later.
I just bit into my cupcake and scarfed the whole thing down in like 2 minutes! Woah that was a really really god cupcake. It puts Starbucks Red Velvet to shame! Sugar Rush's cupcakes are worth $3.00 because they are moist, creamy frosting, and the ladies working were just as sweet.
So now its your turn to go and try a bite for yourself.

*update: These cupcakes are soo good! I went today and got another one to share after my hike with me bf. He loved at his piece in like 2 bites flat!

*Update OMG you have to try their Coconut Cream Cupcake!!!

Warm day Cool eats Rutabegorz

On a hot leisurely day such as Monday there is not much more you wanna do besides sit outside and eat a simply great meal. Since I dont live in L.A. I cant just go on over to a cool cafe like the Urth cafe. I did manage to get outside. I almost felt guilty that I got to enjoy the wonderful scenery with my Mom and sister while the sun was beaming brightly down through our umbrella.

But hey we all deserve a little R&R right? No school or work on Monday equals a good day! I spent my afternoon over in Old Town Orange and ate over at Rutabegorz and was very pleased with their new selection that offers a variety for those who allergic to Gluten, love spicy flavors, and Salad eaters alike. My eyes and taste buds were set on a Greek Wrap and it did not fail at making me wish for more.

So tangy, hearty and full of exotic flavors.

Black Swan Makeup

As some of you may know I dressed up as Nina Natalie Portman's character from Black Swan for Halloween. Here is a photoshoot from back in October. I knew when I first saw the trailer for the film in August that this would be my Halloween costume. I have since become enthralled with Natalie Portman all over again. I loved her speech tonight at the Golden Globe Awards. I just know she is going to win The Best Actress at The Oscars! Let's go Natalie!!

Gwen Stefani The newest International face of L'oreal Paris

Check out the fun new commercial for L'oreal Paris featuring their newest International face "Gwen Stefani". I dont think they could've picked a better woman to represent their red lipstick. I mean she may as well have it tattooed on because she wears it so much. The commercial is a perfect fit for her style and personality.
