Frey House II Tours
These 45-minute guided tours are a rare opportunity to see the residence of modernist architect Albert Frey. A limited number will enjoy this unique experience and gain insight into this modern master’s architectural sensibility. A shuttle van will transport participants from the Museum to Frey II.

Cost: $50 (last tour of the day, $100, includes cocktail party)

Design Lecture Series: Gerard O’Brien: 
Perspectives on Mid-Century California Design
Gerard O’Brien’s Reform Gallery focuses on post-war California Design, with a concentration on handcrafted works from the Studio Craft Movement. In 2005, Julius Shulman photographed Reform’s show: “California Design: an exhibition in celebration of California design 1956-1976,” the seminal exhibitions held at the former Pasadena Museum. In this presentation, O’Brien will be referencing Shulman’s photographs as a basis for discussion on the Studio Craft Movement and the history of the artists featured in the images.

11th Annual Palm Springs Modernism Show
This annual gathering of avid modernism collectors and dealers draws
thousands of people from around the country and from far flung locations around the globe. Produced by Dolphin Promotions (more show info here), this is among the biggest and most successful modernism shows anywhere with a vast collection of stellar modernist furniture, art, jewelry, ceramics, vintage clothing, lighting, posters, paintings and more.

The Architecture and Design Film Series in Partnership with Design Onscreen: Infinite Space: The Architecture of John Lautner

"The purpose of architecture," said John Lautner, "is to create timeless, free, joyous spaces for all activities in life." Infinite Space traces the lifelong quest of visionary genius John Lautner to create "architecture that has no beginning and no end." Director Murray Grigor explores Lautner's dramatic spaces with choreographed camera moves, as Lautner himself provides the commentary via archival recordings.Architectural Historian and Author Alan Hess in-person for post-screening Q&A!

The Mid-Century Power Panel: Don Wexler, Bill Krisel, Judy Shulman and more

Speakers Donald Wexler, Bill and Corinne Krisel, Judy Shulman (Julius's daughter), Helena Arahuete, (Project Architect, John Lautner's Bob Hope House) and other noted panelists to be announced are discussing the golden years of Palm Springs modernism and Julius Shulman's documentation of that era. Screening of the 1/2 documentary "Julius Shulman: Desert Modern." Special limited book signing of "Julius Shulman: Palm Springs" by the panelists and Leland Lee to follow. Oscar Niemeyer is one of the most important figures in international modern architecture—and in 2010, he turned 102. In this film, (2007, Fabiano Maciel, 90 minutes, English subtitles) a candid and funny Niemeyer rarely seen, reflects on his long life and prolific output, including New York’s United Nations building and multiple structures for Brazil’s capital city, Brasília. Architectural Historian and Author Alan Hess in-person for post-screening Q&A!
