How I met Trina Turk

As some of you may know I'm in love with the fashion designer Trina Turk, well not her per say, her designs I should say. A few weeks ago I got to meet her at a meet and greet at her Fashion Island Boutique in Newport Beach, Ca. To say I was nervous would be an understatement, I was going crazy, this is like something you cross off on a bucket list right? To be a design student and able to talk to one of your favorite designers is one of those things that doesn't happen every day.

My only intention upon arriving to this event at her boutique was to talk to Trina face to face and not look like a fool. I know I can get starstruck, one time my sister I went to a Angelina Jolie movie premiere and my sister shook her hand and I screamed. This kind of behavior was not allowed from me at the meet and greet. I have been working on my professional image, haha.

I actually got to talk to Trina for a few minutes, she came up to me and humbly introduced herself, as did I. I told her I'm an interior design student and that I blog for fun. She and I talked about lighting design and how important it is to have good lighting in retail spaces(so true). We talked about Kelly Wearstler and how she designed the boutiques and her Palm Spring's and Los Angeles Boutiques. Trina was so humble and talkative, which so hard to find in the fashion & home design industry. The world needs more designers like Trina, that give back to communities and are down to earth and host meet and greets with adoring clients and design students.
When I arrived at Fashion Island the place was desolate and it was only 7pm. Where were all of the people? I thought to myself...hmm maybe they are all visiting Trina Turk right now just like I'am? As a walked towards the store my excitement was felt though out and my sister was getting a bit embarrassed and didn't want to go inside the store with me. This is not unusual behavior for her, she is one of those people who we will call a flake. I know plenty of people who would have taken her place to go with me.
I walked inside the store and right away I was greeted by the uber-friendly staff that offered a glass of champagne, sure this would calm my nerves.
The store looked to be ready for summer, as Iam.
All of the little vignettes were carefully displayed to give off a lavish pool party lifestyle.
My cherry red dress even matched one of the closet displays.
Towards the back of the store were two display shelves with the hot side and the cool side. This is the hot side showing off lovely pink and coral colored pillows from Trina's home collection. The plush pool towels and bright tropical punch colored bikini's subtly hinting its swim wear season.
This here is the cool colored shelving display. The blues, greens and brown all made me feel like I was on an Island in Greece. There were so many decadent sandals that made your feet cry out for a pedicure.
This is Trina's beaded Teardrop necklace, very vintage inspired and goes well with Trina's Bonita dress.

I have not seen these rings before, but I like the glass ice cube ring in the center.
This is the Amethyst faceted gem ring, would be perfect on index finger while sipping on some red wine.
This model had such a cute outfit on I had to share it with you.

My sister warmed up to thought of looking at cool clothing and having fun. She came in and browsed with me. This is the Bonita dress, we both want one.
The display next to the fitting rooms is so art deco. I loved the fishscale detailing on the sconce table.

Here is a closer look of all of the wonderful Spring and Summer sandals that are on sale at the Trina Turk boutiques.

And the moment of truth, after trying on the Crazy Botanical print dress I asked the sales associate if I could get a pic. with Trina. So here we are, I was so happy she took a photo with me, made my day!
So after my starstruck moment I tried on some more dresses. This is the Foliage Dress. I like it, but I think I need to work out a bit more on my legs before I purchase it.
One of the girls working the event suggested I try on the Biscayne dress. I liked it, the jersey knit fabric made it so comfortable.

This couch was right by the front of the store and if I had my way I would own all of the pillows and the couch.
Here is a close up of the glass and wood wall decor, its really cool and makes the store look bigger.
So that was my night. I had so much fun, thanks to everyone who made this event possible and thank you Trina for being such a great host!

Its my Birthday

It's My Birthday Today

Yes, another year has gone by in my life, but one filled with lots of good memories and photos to relive it. This year I became increasingly more obsessed with coconut, bought way less clothing, blogged so much, took lots of classes at school, re-located at work, started working out again, met Trina Turk, cut my hair from long to short, and had myself some many thought provoking conversations with the people whose company I love. My social life was short lived the last few months, but hey I'm hoping it works for the best in my future when I get good grades for my transcripts next year. Life is good.
Now onto something sweet...coconut cupcakes, maybe I will find one of these today and substitute it for my birthday cake.

Mr Trina Turk, BLOW and how men should be dressing

George & Mirtha Jung lounging poolside.

Sometimes I look at men’s fashion and think to myself...what happened? It's like in the movie clueless when Cher looks at all of her high school male counterparts with disgust. Seriously some guys need some help in the style & dressing department, I'm not going to name names. I thought it would be fun to show a few new styles from designer Trina Turk and compare them to the wardrobe choices from the movie "Blow".

Blow was released in 2001 starring Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and many other quirky actors. This film is based on the life of Drug Lord "George Jung" and spans mostly between the 60s and 70's in California, Mexico and a few other American locations.

60's California beach scene from "Blow".

The Character George Jung (played by Johnny Depp) is irresistible to women and he has a serious drug habit to boot. Because he is a drug lord he has access to lots and lots of over the top garb and exclusive hot spots. His wardrobe consists of short shorts, graphic prints, polos, vests, sunglasses and resort wear.

Now let’s talk about Trina Turk and why her designs could be something that the modern day George Jung would consider wearing. Trina Turk's designs have been said to be inspired by Palm Springs, California culture. Her women’s fashion line is a modern twist on cocktail dresses, sportswear and swim wear. Turk's boutiques have been designed by stylist and ceramics designer Jonathan Adler as well as interior designer Kelly Wearstler. Both designers have given her boutiques the feeling of stepping back in time where shopping was an experience from the music to the colors on the walls and the lighting fixtures.

Men need to take the initiative and start to dressing up to the level that their partners do. Trina Turks website has recently launched Mr. Turk, the male counterpart to Trina Turk. After I took a look I was inspired to do this post and share it with all of you, men and women. Mr. Turk is a mix of Palm Springs Cocktail, Preppy Golfer, Poolside Lounger, Country Club Brunch, Wedding Duds and Date Night. So all of you men please take a look at Mr. Turk and I bet you will not only find something you love, but your woman (or man) will love it as well.

Agatha Ruiz De La Prada

Fashionably Fearless
Agatha Ruiz De La Prada

About The Designer:Agatha De La Prada
Agatha Ruiz de la Prada started her fashion career in 1980, and since then was able to mantain her style thoughout international fashion movement.

This attitude allowed her to design her own global language of fashion which is an authentic revolution against the already established.

Agatha's design reflect a point of view full of love, humor and optimism, with this extraordinary colours and forms as a basis for this world she has created.

With this combination she obtains unique and organic components in all her artworks: textiles, furniture, crockery, technology, childcare, etc.

Agatha Ruiz de la prada believes in a concept of life focused on the smallest details and a world composed of vitality.

Agatha Ruiz De La Prada Designs

In my opinion this designer has a big imagination and her inspiration must be homemade costumes for school plays, pee wee Herman, children's books, cartoons, pop art and the outdoors. Her work is beautifully artsy, adventurous and full of vibrant color and life.

This umbrella skirt makes my world turn upside down for a moment and then makes me realize it's an illusion.

Is that a French baguette on her head? Why yes it is. And eggs on her dress? In this world it seems you are what you eat.

A woman is transformed into a chest, I wonder what it inside those drawers?
And to the right...what do we have here? An artichoke?

It's OK to be hairy as long as it is shaped into a mustache. And I see there is an eye on your head with a mouth for a skirt and legs for a tongue.

A lovely brick wall that has been taken over by this lovely flower.

This bird cannot be caged.

Sasha Baron Cohen is that you?
No it's just Bruno

Feel ready for any weather in army green jackets

I have noticed n influx of army green jackets especially in the celebrity world of fashion. Does one starlet wear one item and there is a domino effect upon the stylists that dress them, or is it that the army green jacket is perfect for unpredictable spring weather? I go with the fact that its perfect for Spring weather!
I myself own an army green jacket from Old Navy, its about 4 yrs old now but it gets the job done. I have worn it in Winter...
And this Spring. Its perfect for layering and is almost neutral because it goes with so many other colors and prints.
All hail the army green jacket.

In Living Color

The desert sun, a warm breeze, spicy bbq, palm trees, stiff drinks and a perfectly set table are a few of my favorite things. Trina Turk and her husband Jonathan Skow sure know how to entertain don't they. I would love to be a guest or even a fly on the wall at this little gathering they hosted at their Palm Springs home. The Martha Stewart Living feature will have to suffice.
