Lofts & Art Walks

The DJ Station.

A random night spent with friends in Downtown Santa Ana Art Walk can lead to the most interesting of venues. After bar hopping got old we ventured out into the streets for a more acquired taste of night life. What did we find? Well, a loft party of all things. Nothing special really as far as parties go. But the loft it self was impressive. So I took a few shots to show you the place. The best part was the rooftop view. I got the butterflies in my stomach climbing the ladder up. Don't even get me started with all of the drunks who looked like they were 2 seconds away from falling over the edge of the rooftop...

Miss Turkey? Is that you?

One of the many staircases at the loft party.

The steepest step ladder lead to the rooftop.

Thankful For Fashion

This year I'm so thankful for a new job opportunity in the world of fashion and visual merchandising! Working at Roadkill Ranch has been a part of my totally new positive outlook on life. I work with some pretty amazing people that have a great attitude and work so hard, its very inspiring.

I have never felt this happy or fashionable in so long! I've been taking my style more seriously, as in...not letting myself go like I was for the past couple of years. VIVA LA FASHION!

Pumpkin Stuffed With Everything GOOD

When people ask me if I cook I usually pause and think to myself, no not really. Then I remember that one time that I made a ridiculously good meal from a pumpkin of all things and reply "Yes, Yes I do cook!".

A few years ago I was driving home through the dark canyon listening to my fav station KCRW which has an awesome cooking show, "Good Food: with Evan Kleiman". That day they were talking about a recipe from Chef Dorie Greenspans cookbook "Around my French Table" which had me salivating from the start. I knew that one day I would have to make this dish.

So my friends, I followed along with this recipe and my pumpkin came out SO GOOD! This recipe would be great for Thanksgiving, or a cold rainy night! ENjoy!

The Great Opportunity

The choice is yours, how you feel, how you live your life. Your life can shine and be great, greater than you know. Some people may try to take you down. But you my friend are so much better than you think will be. Once you let go of your past demons, skeletons in the closet, fears...you only have room to shine. The light of the stars, let them guide you through the universe. You will find your way along the way.

Thank you, my beautiful mind for guiding me through these last few months towards a greater, deeper appreciation for this one life I have. The opportunities have been coming my way, I'm no longer afraid. Because I know I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, right now.

One day this will be just a memory, a part of my life, I hope that I can look back and be happier than I am right now that I had made the choices I did.

     Thank you.

Yoloween

The Circle K has a time machine. And it takes you to 1987!

This year Halloween seemed to be a never ending abyss of alcohol, candy and costumes. If it wasn't Halloween related it wasn't worth your time. I made the most of my Yoloween by dressing up 4 times! Yes not once, not twice, four times! As you can see below there were many fun costumes! I will spare you the sight of the more "NSFW" pics by showing you these fun ones! YAY!

Leigh in her E.T. costume that she made all by herself! She is soo talented!!

Toni and I dressed as Psy and Johnny Depp.

Thank god for this mask...I was over dressing up at this point.

Alyssa and Andy as the raver and Dia De Los Mickey Mouse! CUTE!

Confessions Of A Procrastinating Emotional Painter

Somewhere between last week and today I began painting again. I had a proposal placed upon me at work a few weeks ago to paint a Rib-cage onto two mannequins for a window display. This seemed an easy task when I was first told. But it wasn't till last week that the pressure began to cave in on me. I had to start working on those mannequins! And soon. So I did what I do best, work under pressure(little sleep).

I rose to the task. I felt like a student again. Anxiously awaiting the finishing line of my most recent project at hand. Unlike so many times I had felt a different kind of pressure. It was not a pressure of anxiety or stress. More like a release of pressure that had been building up inside of me. The procrastinator in me was releasing the stress that had been waiting to just come out. With each stroke of the brush I felt like a layer was peeling off.

After 4 hours of painting in the heat I was left with two stunning mannequins. I would name them the Mannequin Graveyard on my Instagram. Proudly showing them off to anyone who would look, let alone LIKE them. Isn't it thrilling to have complete strangers liking your life in pictures! Social networking boggles my mind sometimes, amazing.

Over the next few days I was still rolling off that high whether it was from the paint or the likes on Instagram... I was inspired and I needed to do something about it fast.

On a whim I entered Michael's A.K.A. the craft Haven to look for some essentials for my newly re-discovered CRAFT! To my delight I was lingering up and down the aisles looking at an array of canvas styles and sizes along with paint and brushes galore. What to do, what to do.

My younger broke college student self would say ah F#$@! it and just leave empty handed. I chose to go with my instinct. Being the weirdo that I'am, I left my new paint friends in the car for a few days, this is a strange habit I have. I needed to sit on it, what it was I wanted to paint exactly. So after a day of letting my mind wander, (and my paint melt in the car). I decided It was time!

As you can see from the photo from above, I was able to paint something...with my own two hands plus a paint brush or two and my imagination. I originally had something else that I wanted to paint, but somehow ended up with this masterpiece! Isn't it funny how things happen? Its like the saying "Life is what happens when you're planning it"...or however it goes. Same thing goes for my paintings I guess.

Do you paint or craft?
What inspires your arts and crafts?

Can I tell you something?

As I sit here at a lovely cafe in Downtown Fullerton, I wonder what has stopped me from blogging for so long. In the blog world a month or so is long enough for you to think I may have fallen off the face of the planet. But I assure you that I have been away for reasons that are more awesome than I could have imagined. In the last month I have gone through a change of lifestyle. For a while I wasn't sure what I was doing with myself, doing things that we're out of character, constantly mad angry and upset at my situation. Now, I would be lying if I said it didn't happen over night, because it did. My life changed over the course of mere hours. Let me tell you something...

When you know what you want, you will be given what you desire to make you happy in life.

One night I laid in bed alone feeling like another day had gone by with me not knowing what my purpose was or how to really feel truly happy anymore. The days of summer were filled with more sadness than happiness. I cover up most of my feelings by being a joker of sorts, but I knew deep down that something needed to change. I turned on my netflix and scrolled through the recommendations, and as usual I couldn't make up my mind and was about to give up. I stumbled upon a documentary called "The Secret". I figured what the heck, why not, I have nothing to lose.

At first this so-called documentary looked a bit cheesy, and how could anyone really watch the whole thing without thinking this is a load of shit. It was late, I closed my eyes and tried to fight the urge to fall asleep. The next day couldn't come any sooner. When I awoke that next morning it was different than it had been in a while. I thought to myself I want a coffee, so I went and I got a coffee for myself, and for the girl in from of me who forgot her wallet. I was instantly in a really good mood. This works for me, is what I told myself. All day I felt a little spring in my step. Even at work some dude said "Wow you must really like working here!" and I replied "Im just having a really good day"...he then said "Must have been something that someone did to make you this happy" and my final answer was "Yeah, ME!".

The feelings I felt didn't go away, its as if they got more and more intense with each waking day since I watched that documentary "The Secret". I thought about things in a different way, my outlook on life was not about being scared or afraid, but about if it makes you happy go for it, and what is it you want out of life? I put out into the world my thoughts on positiveness and how it can change your way of being, and that any negative things of the moment could be blamed on Mercury In Retrograde! That is a whole other thing in itself. The point is that no matter what the bad things can and will happen, but if you focus on those alone, you will live a life full of hate, fear, sadness, depression...you get the point, right?

I told myself I wanted to ban all evil, sadness, failure, any things from my past ways of thinking and banish them. These are the things that have held me back in so many ways. The what if's the Im not good enough, the I dont have the money. This being said I pushed myself to think of what I wanted in life and where I wanted my path to be leading me to. I decided to start working on myself, so I thought the 1st thing I really want to do is find a new job. One that I feel appreciated at, that I feel creative, understood, opinionated etc. So I put it out into the universe that I wanted these things. That same week things worked in my favor. It was quite scary actually how fast things began to shift.

In an instant I was offered a position at one of my favorite shops in Fullerton. And on top of that I was referred to the Los Angeles regional recruiter for Anthropologie! Can you believe it? I sure couldn't. I called my mom and told her about both incidents and how strange it was that life came together like the secret said it would. I gave myself one week to decide what to do. I knew that I had to focus really hard on what it was that I wanted in order for it to be apparent what decision would be the right one for me.

I attended a creative meeting at the shop in Fullerton to work on a window display and talked more with them about the position being offered. Later that night I went home super pumped and knew the decision was almost ready to be made. When all of a sudden fear came back into play. The what ifs...the I don't knows...I began to cry. This was the decision that was so hard because I had so much weighing on it. Within minutes the house began to shake. There was an earthquake. Instantly I went into panic mode. What does it mean? What does this all mean? I had gone from happy, sad to scared in a matter of minutes.

The earthquake in my eyes was the worlds way of shaking me out of my comfort zone, and to make a choice of what to do next and soon. Life doesn't wait for you, it will move on without you if you decide to take your time making decisions. It had begun the process of purging the past and making room for a new bright future ahead! I started by selling my stock, and then writing a letter of resignation, and then a vacation that I had planned on taking before hand. Before I knew it I had one week left of work before I started my new position. Things happened so fast, I look back now and wish I could only have done this sooner. But life doesn't always give you second chances. So I'm glad that I made my decision when I did. I decided to have a happy life, a happy outlook, a new place of work where I feel creative, and part of a great team of ladies that are so inspiring to work with!

So for all of you wondering for the past few weeks what has gotten into me...well that was it. I just had to harness what it is I wanted. I totally believe in "The Secret" I'm living proof that you can attract the things you want to have a happy life :)

Have any of you read "The Secret" or seen the documentary?

What are your thoughts on it?

Tales of DIY TeePee's & Merchandising

A  quick sketch of our window display that I did envisioned.

You always start with a theme, that is where you begin to draw things together and get excited about window displays. This is exactly what happened when we decided to go with a Native American/Southwestern theme theme at RLT. I thought this theme would work for the store because we have a natural living and DIY presence and clientele. Take a look and see how it all came together.

Eloisa did an awesome job painting the TeePee for us! Thank you :)

We began installing the Teepee and troubleshooting how to make it stay up.

A view from behind (we merchandised this so it looks different).
Standing on a very tall ladder in a short dress...attaching the palate to the ceiling.

Check out the shot of the teepee up close. The designs were made from strawberry boxes and blocks of wood.

Putting the tools away and getting ready to see our final results.

There she is our Native American Southwestern window display in all her glory! Don't you love how the Teepee is lit up!
We are all so excited about how this window came out! Thanks to my ladies Eloisa and Leigh for doing a wonderful job designing and installing!

Sawdust or Bust

Me and my Tully's are on top of the world.

One fine afternoon I headed out to the Sawdust festival with my mom. I was on vacation that week from one job and prepping for a workshop at another so I needed something fun to get my mind de-stressed. I joined my mom and we had a blast, why have I never gone to Sawdust before? It's really hard to explain how the whole event works or even looks...I know this because I have been told about it and it never made sense to me until I went.

Below are photos I took of my day at Sawdust, there are a few artists whose name I didn't get so sorry in advance. Enjoy, and don't forget the Holiday show is coming up soon and it sounds magical :)

This is a dream ring for me, too bad it was too big on all of my fingers :(

The outdoor cafe was packed with people eating this really great looking sandwiches.

Don't even know what to say, I love it though.

Brynne of Backward prints! She is so sweet and so are her designs!

The butt got my attention, not gonna lie.

Beautiful Turquoise rings in an array of colors.

Chola and her dog painted onto a cigar box. Wish I knew who the artist was.

My fav artist of the day Sue Winner, I bought 3 of her prints! Her booth was so magical I didn't wanna leave!

This super cool top was at Sue Winners booth as well!

Lunch at Lumberyard...quite tasty.

Have you been to Sawdust festival before?

Let me know if you have, or any other great art festivals you recommend.
